Our cattery after years of dedication, has successfully eradicated the sphynx hcm gene called ALMS1 gene. As of October 2022 no kitten will be born with any copies of the gene, therefore no kitten will die from heart failure caused by this gene!!!!

Our cattery is in our home and we are dedicated to improving the breed. The health of our sphynx is our highest priority

Furrvelvet sphynx is one of the first breeders in Australia to test all breeders for the newly discovered sphynx hcm gene in February 2021. The results are sent to North Carolina State University (NCSU), Veterinary Genetics laboratory in America.

NCSU advise since that this mutation only appears to have identified about 60% of affected cats, it appears likely that there is at least one other Sphynx cat HCM Mutation.
